CSA PROGRAM

A weekly "Field-to-Table" experience

What is a CSA?

CSA stands for community supported agriculture. Its a model that gives us the farmers some security knowing the seeds we sow will have a home in the end, inevitably cutting down on food waste, and ensuring the food we grow is nourishing our community members It encourages less waste on the farm, more security in sales, ensuring that you the customer get to eat the most in season produce. It gives you a chance to try new things you might not otherwise try and hopefully gets you eating certain things you might not otherwise!

It gives us the farmers an increase in cash flow before our season starts in the winter/spring when output costs are very high, when we are busy purchasing all the materials needed for a successful growing season ahead.

There is a lot of planning that goes into market gardening and the trends at market are always changing, a crop that we couldn’t grow enough of the year before might not have the same interest the following season and something we grew a smaller amount of thinking it wouldn’t sell ends up being the MVP (most valuable produce ha-ha ) of the season! The CSA models really help us, as growers, as we have actual numbers to base our planning off.

As a CSA member you are shareholder in our farm. You are buying into both the successes and failures of the farm. Sometimes crops do not grow as planned and other times they are extremely bountiful. When we have a successful and bountiful season you will see that reflected in your shares. Our gardens and crops are influenced by weather, pests, and diseases as we are organic growers and there are a lot of uncontrollable variables, we do all we can do manage these variables, to help prevent and tackle certain issues like pests, diseases and crop failures. As a CSA member, you'll experience both the incredible rewards and the uncontrollable risks of the season! Keep in mind that some crops may be limited or unavailable due to these seasonal dynamics. Unlike store-bought produce, our fruits and vegetables are picked at their peak, so we can’t promise a specific shelf life. It’s all about how you choose to cook, enjoy, preserve, or store your fresh weekly bounty!

We will be offering three different shares this season for a total of 26 weeks (1/2 a year!!!) of fresh produce. You do not have to sign up for all three, sign up for the one or one’s you feel are a good fit for your family!

Our Spring share gives you the first taste of fresh produce from the garden’s, perfect timing after a long winter. The program runs from mid April-mid May (exact start date TBD, weather dependant). Fall Share (4 week - $200)

Our Fall share gives you the last taste and bounty of produce of the season from the garden’s, a perfect way to extend your season for fresh produce and start preserving and storing some food away for the winter months ahead. The program runs from October to November (exact start date TBD, weather dependant). The boxes will be ever changing throughout the season but will always include staples like mixed greens and leafy greens. Each box will include 6-8 items. Expect to see things like but not limited to: Mixed greens, Head Lettuce, Arugula, Spinach, Radishes, Carrots, Salad turnips, Beets, Winter Squash, Onions, Potatoes, Garlic, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Leeks, Kale, Swiss Chard, Kohlrabi.

As a CSA member you ALWAYS get the first of things to ripen and will get produce you might not see at market and there are certain crops we grow exclusively for the shares.

Currently, we only offer one size share. We find it a good amount of produce for a family of 2-4/weekly and for bigger families or big veggie eaters it is a good amount with other produce supplemented from your gardens, our gardens or other local producers. Weekly add ons will be available as well!

This year we will be doing something’s a bit different when it comes to timing of the shares. We will plan to have our Spring share start mid April and run until mid May then we will take off a few weeks between spring and summer to let the gardens have a few weeks to grow and get nice and abundant for the summer share, and to help us get through the madness of the main planting season!

Then we will start that 18-week Summer share. There will be a one week “pause” in the Summer share after week #10 , so Gabe and I and the boys can zip away for a night or two of camping to fill up our cups and hearts and re-energize for the rest of the season. It will also give you a chance to catch up on harvests, especially for those of you who are signed up for all 26 weeks of shares. The CSA will go back to regular weekly shares after that pause week starting on week #11. We have never done this since starting our weekly CSA 5 years ago and really think it will be beneficial for us, our gardens and for you guys. Please let me know your thoughts on this!

Something we had intended to implement last season but did not happen was our “weekly swap box” at both pick up locations there will be a bin with a few staples, and you are welcome to swap out something in your share if it is something you’re needing a break from or your family just won’t eat. Since we cannot offer customizable boxes, this gives you kind of the best of both worlds and still gives us the ability to plan, plant and harvest our crops in a predictable way. Eliminating on food waste.

Payment and pick up options

We ask for a 50% deposit when signing up, you are welcome to pay in full if that works best for you and your family. The remaining 50 %can be paid anytime before March 1/2026. If a payment plan is something your family needs, please reach out privately and we will see what we can do! Pick up and delivery details to come. The two pick up locations are the Owen Sound Farmers market from 8-12:30 on Saturdays or from our walk-in cooler/trailer at our place in town. Exact times to be determined but, we generally give you about a 3-day window to pick up from the cooler to help ensure our shares are accessible for as many people as possible, fitting into everyone’s different schedules and busy lives.

In town (Owen Sound) delivery will be $5/week extra.

Thank you for putting your trust in us as your farmers this summer, supporting small organic agriculture and allowing us to help feed you and your families this season!
